G.I.S Manager

The Geographic Information Systems Manager is responsible for providing Geographic Information System expertise, direction and supervision to members of the MPandZ.

This position is responsible for working closely with other teams and divisions of the MPandZ, and taking responsibility for the delivery of GIS related functions of the project. The Geographic Information Systems Manager will be the lead on multiple projects in the MPandZ, related to this discipline and is responsible for managing and directing members of this division.

This position will have to report on the daily progress of the GIS to the Planning Director.

Additionally, this individual is responsible for conceiving, and developing award-winning solutions to be implemented in the project.

The GIS Manager should support management in strategic thinking, and make sure projects are executed in accordance with international regulations



Key responsibilities:

-Plans, organises and directs the implementation of the project's GIS program.

-Develops goals and objectives, recommends policies and procedures, establishes priorities, schedules, and budgets the program.

-Determines resources available for program activities.

-Supervises various aspects of GIS including data base design and creation, geo-processing and modelling activities, and product and service delivery.

-Co-ordinates with and advises principal system users to determine functional requirements of the GIS program.

-Provides professional advice to departments to clarify geo-processing requirements.

-Schedule updates of existing databases, including costing and budgeting.

-Ensures the establishment and ongoing maintenance of the GIS database utilizing computer hardware and software.

- Responsible for the implementation of upper management strategic plans and tasks.

-Identifies the risk contingency factors.

-Conducts and attends all related meetings, presentations related to the unit performance and technical engagements.

-Sets up and develops the division's expansion, training and recruitment plans for the upper management approvals and action.

-Establishes and maintains effective relationships with subordinates and other interdepartmental and external contacts.

-Provides professional consulting services to departments to conceptualise and analyze user needs, develop practical systems, and determine essential resources.

-Plans, develops, manages, co-ordinates and promotes a GIS program.
